SHWAT HogAncient wisdom says we are all known by the company we keep, and SHWAT couldn’t be happier to file this initial recap of the $28,000 purse Wild Hog Roundup, sponsored and organized by Wulf Outdoor Sports. The SHWAT Team was there, sponsored by our good friends at Crossbreed Holsters.  You’ll like the kit we took along – gear from Nighthog (Night Vision and Thermal), DBAL-D2 and prototype SPIR from Laser Devices, Laser Genetics ND3, LaCrosse Snake Boots, EOTech sites and magnifiers, Leupold  scope, Trijicon ACOG, Insight M6X white light/laser combo, and a pair of Blackhawk boots.  Rifles included guns from Accurate Armory, Rock River Arms, and Armalite.  Ammunition was DRT and Winchester.  You’ll want to dig into this for pictures, details and more.

GearNot only do I really like hog hunting, but I’ll have to admit that I’m a major gear nut too. I really like trying all kinds of new guns and gear for my passion, Hog Hunting. Being in the gun industry, opportunities abound. While I’m constantly trying new products, I’ve settled on certain guns and gear as necessary and my proven favorites. Why these? I'll tell you more in a minute, but over 1000 hogs have agreed with me that the use of this gear in competent hands is pervasively effective.

While cool guns and optics are a blast to read about, look at pictures of, and handle, a few more mundane products are essential for hog hunting success. We’ll call these our necessary gear. I'll tell you about my favorite hunting vehicles, binoculars, Night Vision gear, and of course, my favorite go-to guns. There might be a couple that surprise you.  I've loaded this article with pictures you won't find elsewhere, inclouding guns we haven't made available to the public yet.

Crimson Trace GroupCrimson Trace and Camp Patriot recently teamed up to provide two Special Forces veterans, who had been wounded while on active duty, with a Texas hog hunt—and not just any kind hog hunt but a tactical one complete with night vision equipment, tactical rifles and all sorts of related equipment. Both service members were wounded in Afghanistan and have faced an arduous and painful road to recovery. The firearms industry has been at the forefront of supporting veterans’ charities, particularly those that facilitate their rehabilitation. An added guest really enjoyed himself, too—the 11-year-old son of one of the veterans.  In fact, of the nearly a dozen pigs taken during the three day hunt, it was the youngster who led the way!

ACOGThe Trijicon ACOG is a real world, battle tested and proven tactical optic.  It's used by no nonsense warriors whose lives depend on good gear, sound tactics, and keen competencies.  Fortunately for the civilian market, these workhorses are available to the rest of us.  As is obvious by my previous articles, I'm a fan of mixing the tactical world and the wild hog hunting world.  I think they have a great crossover, that skill in one arena pay dividends in the other.  On that same theme let’s talk about the use of traditionally tactical optics for use in hog hunting. For this entry, we’ll look at the ACOG.  More specifically I want to talk about the Trijicon ACOG 4x32 w/ 4.0 MOA RMR Sight.
