Remember when you were a kid at Christmas, shaking presents under the tree to see if you could figure out what was in them inside? Did you ever know with certainty what was in one of those packages?  You probably had seen its contents before in a store or catalog, or maybe at friend’s house.  You had plans for this this thing, whatever it was.  And now you knew it was yours, it was just a matter of time.  If that’s you, then you know the anticipation that we’ve had here at Special Hog Weapons and Tactics™ waiting for the production launch of the Laser Devices Inc. SPIR.  We first learned of this unique infrared (IR) illuminator back in January 2012 at SHOT Show, billed as the largest and most comprehensive trade show for all professionals involved with the shooting sports, hunting and law enforcement industries. 

While there are countless applications for the SPIR, Laser Devices squarely aimed it at the tactical hog hunting community. And we have the first production unit in our hands. Read on for more and a demo video we've made for you.

Tactical hog hunting covers a really wide set of circumstances.  It includes the one shot one kill precision shot over distance, the spot and stalk, bolt guns, AR-15s, silencers and night vision.  Ultimately, tactical hog hunting brings together shooters of all stripes to take on the challenge of the exploding feral hog population.  The hog problem is more than the catalyst for hunting.  In places, the sole purpose for hunting hogs is the eradication of this invasive, destructive menace.  Some who hold a narrow definition the term “hunting” where harvesting meat is mandatory, struggle to understand the purpose, and the excitement, of the much needed high-speed eradication of this species. This is not a story for them. 

For most of recorded history, darkness has provided concealment to the hunted.  Night vision and thermal technologies changed all that.  The commercial market is seeing an explosion in availability and innovation of this type of gear.  This has opened the door to some serious game changers in Special Hog Weapons And Tactics™ hunts.  If you read my story, "East Texas Nights," you know that we recently had the opportunity to test drive some night hunting gear at the Wild Hog Roundup put on by Wulf Outdoor Sports in East Texas.  This is my After Action Report focused on the tools we used to see in the dark.  They range from the entry level Nite Hunter to a $15K thermal device.

The first official East Texas hunt for the SHWAT™ Team was an exciting success!  We were well equipped with a wide variety of some of the best gear available and had good land to hunt on.  Our kit included prototypes of new Laser Devices NV gear, Nitehog NV and thermal optics, EOTech, and much more.  It's all part of the tactical hog hunting fun!  

SHWAT™ fielded a team at the Wulf Outdoor Sports Wild Hog Roundup, and I'm pleased to tell you that the gear, guns and even the hogs cooperated nicely.  You'll have to read the rest of the story to get the details and the final score, but I think you'll like how it goes.
